If you have one hour…

Walk. The beaches in this part of the world are beautiful, and you can walk the entire length of town along the sand. Start off at Magna Tubes, stroll past Boneyards to the legendary SuperTubes, on to Tubes, Impossibles and Point, and make an easy round trip of it. If you can stretch the hour, you could amble all the way to Kabeljous.

The-GreekEat. Settle into a table overlooking the dunes at Kitchen Windows. Owner Altus is also the chef, and you’ll love his food. What else would you order but seafood caught in the very ocean you’re enjoying the view of? There’s calamari, prawns, and a daily line fish to tempt. 042 293 4230.
If seafood’s not your thing, climb the stairs to 3 Fat Fish. They’re known for their pizza, and have a cool view down Da Gama road. If casual, classic and contemporary dining is your thing, we’ll see you there. 042 293 41 47.

Buy. Infood Bakery and Deli is the kind of place the locals don’t really want you to know about. It’s that special. Jayne and Steve specialise in artisan breads made with stone ground flour, awesome coffee and amazing sushi. Saturday mornings see boerewors rolls on freshly made roosterbrood sold on the sidewalk to hungry masses. A band keeps them entertained. Get there early. 042 293 1880.

If you have one day…

Visit. The Kabeljous Nature Reserve offers amazing scenery and a couple of easy hikes through dunes thickets, forest and wetlands. Play spot the pink flamingo (in season, of course) and enjoy a picnic at the estuary once you’ve worked up an appetite. 042 292 0339.

Ride. Nothing beats a horse ride along the coast. Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides offers amazing days out atop a horse, and covering a two to three hour trail over the dunes to the Gamtoos River Mouth. From your vantage point you’ll spot an incredible array of birds, bushbuck and marine life, and really, does it get any better than a gallop along the sand in the seaspray? We don’t think so. 079 299 8080.

Party. If you haven’t yet been to The Greek opposite Jeffreys Bay’s Main Beach, you’ve been missing out. Apart from a host and owner who knows everything there is to know about the Mediterranean food (and believe us, you won’t find better), come night time, the Greeks know how to party. It doesn’t get more authentic than this. Take along a couple of friends to enjoy the hospitality of owner George and smash a few plates – it’s very therapeutic. Opa!  083 287 6406.

Applaud. Quality entertainment is easy to find in Jeffreys Bay. Just head to Potters Place, where they host regular world class cabaret and music acts in their cosy theatre. It’s an intimate space, so book a table ahead and enjoy dinner before the show. 042 293 2500.

Enjoy. Sundowners on the deck of Jolly Dolphin in Diaz road are a must-to for any visitor to Jeffreys Bay. There’s a great view and an even better vibe. 042 2932624.

If you have one weekend…

Stay. There are so many great places to hang your hat for a weekend in Jeffreys Bay. You’ll find JayBay House Guest House up on a hill overlooking the town, which means killer views of breaking waves and sandy beaches. 042 293 3452.
If you’re really looking to get away from it all, then try Moya Manzi Beach House in Paradise Beach, just a few kilometres outside of Jeffreys. Four star, with panoramic views of the ocean, it’s perfect if complete rest and relaxation are your thing. 042 292 0780.

Kitchen Windows is the only restaurant where I've eaten calamari and actually enjoyed it. Great place.
